Getting a job is a process of matchmaking. And, there’s nothing intuitive about it.

Even armed with a solid career direction and a customized resume that captures the attention of hiring managers, hundreds of factors go into determining if the role and the candidate are the right fit for each other. Beyond education, skills, and years of experience, there are soft factors such as team orientation, problem-solving and communication skills, conflict management and resolution, detail orientation, and so on, that all go into creating an enduring match. In the quest for that “enduring match,” employers can ask some pretty piercing (and sometimes unsettling) questions. It’s a lot to ask of someone that is brand new to the workforce and doesn’t know what to expect.

It’s probably not a stretch to say I am an expert on the hiring process and candidate selection. With over 25 years’ experience, I’ve been on every side of the hiring equation as a job hunter, hiring manager, and executive search consultant. After creating I don’t even know how many job descriptions and resumes, training hundreds of hiring managers in the art of behavioral interviewing and final candidate selection, and interviewing literally thousands of job seekers over the years, I’ve witnessed how crucial it is for candidates, especially our newest entrants into the workforce, to be prepared and confident.

Why FutureStreet?

I’ve always believed in paying it forward to the community of people that have supported my own journey. So, when I am asked for help with a resume, a quick brush up on interview skills, or negotiating compensation I always try to be of service, even if it’s not my contract. It makes me feel good, it makes them feel good, and it’s good business.

About two years ago I noticed a shift. Clients, candidates, and friends began asking me to help their recently graduated son or daughter for help with job search direction, resume editing, and interview preparation. Before I knew it, I was helping several graduates a year. It was fun, rewarding and most were able to land their first career-focused job within three months or less! Every recent graduate I worked with was excited to practice their new skills and get started in their new life; and, their parents were thrilled with their confident and employed graduate. That’s how FutureStreet was founded!
